Richard L. "Dick" Dunkelberger, 68, of West Reading, passed away February 7, 2017, in the Reading Hospital.
He was the beloved husband of Marcy (Dautrich) Dunkelberger. They were together for 38 years.
Born in Reading, he was a son of Esther M. (Becker) Dunkelberger, Fleetwood, and the late Harry G. Dunkelberger, Jr., who died on September 3, 2015.
Dick was a 1966 graduate of Reading High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving in Germany from 1968-1971.
He will be remembered for many things, his love of music and dancing, throwing great parties, his special cheesecakes, his love of travel and the outdoors. Dick held too many jobs in too many places to list them all, from Yellowstone to the Poconos, from carpenter to chef, from the Reading homeless shelter to volunteer work at Coachella. Dick was a jack of all trades, but his true vocation was helping family and friends.
Dick will be missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons: Challen Stephens, husband of Wendy , Huntsville, AL; and Kyle Stephens, husband of Jericho Winter, Portland, OR; and two siblings: Dana G. Dunkelberger, husband of Judith, Columbia, SC; and Robin L., wife of Harry E. Naugle, Fleetwood. Numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews also survive him.
A memorial service will be Sunday, February 12, 2017, at 3 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home at 739 Penn Ave., West Reading. Friends may call Sunday from 2 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Opportunity House, 430 North 2nd Street, Reading, PA 19601 or Greater Reading Food Bank, 117 Morgan Dr., Reading, PA 19608.
