Rev. Richard A. Leiby, 63, died October 31, 2013 in his Muhlenberg Township residence.
He was the husband of Brenda D. (Helm) Leiby, whom he married May 22, 1988.
Born in Easton, PA on December 25, 1949, he was a son of the late Stanley B. and Jane ( Adams) Leiby.
He served as a Captain with the United States Army Reserves.
Rich was a 1967 graduate of Wilson Area High School, Easton; a graduate of Lafayette College, Easton and a 1989 graduate of Lancaster Theological Seminary.
He was the founder of the Muhlenberg Food Pantry, which he started in 2008.
Rich was a board member of both the Bethany Childrens Home and the Greater Berks Food Bank.
He was employed by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from 1972 to 1986, working as a counselor at St. Gabriel's Hall, Audubon for one year and then as a teacher and principal with De La Salle in Towne, Philadelphia.
Rich was the Pastor of Rosedale United Church of Christ, Laureldale since October, 1989, last working October 14, 2012.
Some of his passions included, his family, church, Philadelphia sports and Penn State.
Rich also loved the beach, reading and writing.
He is also survived by four children: Katherine E. (Leiby), wife of Michael J. Dempsher of Hagerstown, Maryland; Amanda L. (Leiby), wife of Steven R. Nelson of Muhlenberg Township; Ethan D., husband of Patricia A. (McAleer) Leiby of Holland, Bucks County and Megan E. (Leiby), wife of Jeffrey M. Zielinski of Skippack, Montgomery County.
Other survivors include two brothers: John S., husband of Virginia W. (Whitney) Leiby of Deering, New Hampshire and David A., husband of Vanessa M. (Murchake) Leiby of Damascus, Maryland.
There are six grandchildren: Michael J. Wissman, Jonathan D. Dempsher, Matthew R. Leiby, Natalie R. Nelson, Adam J. Dempsher and Jackson A. Zielinski.
Memorial Services will be Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 3:00 pm in Rosedale UCC., 1301 Bellevue Ave., Laureldale, PA 19605. A visitation will be held Saturday from 1:00 pm until time of services.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Church at the above address or the Greater Berks Food Bank, 1011 Tuckerton Court, Reading, PA 19605 or the Bethany Childrens Home, 1863 Bethany Road, Womelsdorf, PA 19567.
