THE REVEREND MONSIGNOR EDWARD W. SARZYNSKI.
Chaplain, Sacred Heart Convent, Mount Alvernia, Reading, died on Wednesday, 30 July 2014, at the age of 60.
A native of Wyomissing PA, Monsignor Sarzynski is the son of Anna Marie (Mazepa) Sarzynski and the late Walter E. Sarzynski. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his sister Diane (Sarzynski) Dewey; cousins Annamarie (Sundy) Brennan, John Sundy, Charles Paplosky, and Joseph Paplosky. He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Sarzynski, and his sister, Marcia (Sarzynski) Angelone.
Monsignor Sarzynski attended the University of Scranton and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science while he studied for the Priesthood at Saint Pius X Seminary, Dalton, Pennsylvania. Monsignor Sarzynski completed his studies for the Priesthood at Mary Immaculate Seminary, Northampton, Pennsylvania, where he received a Master's Degree in Divinity.
He was ordained to the Priesthood on 12 May 1979 by The Most Reverend Norbert F. Gaughan, then-Auxiliary Bishop of Greensburg, at the Cathedral of Saint Catharine of Siena, Allentown. On 12 June 1997 he was named Prelate of His Holiness by Pope John Paul II.
Monsignor Sarzynski's first Priestly assignment was Parochial Vicar, Immaculate Conception Blessed Virgin Mary Church, Allentown, followed by Parochial Vicar at the former Saint George Church, Shenandoah. Monsignor Sarzynski's first Pastoral assignment was at the former Saint Stanislaus Church, Shenandoah, and Professor, Cardinal Brennan High School, Ashland. His next Pastoral assignment was Pastor, Saint Casimir Church, Shenandoah, until being named Chaplain, Sacred Heart Convent, Mount Alvernia, Reading.
During the course of his Priestly Ministry, Monsignor Sarzynski held the following Auxiliary Diocesan Assignments: Special Advocate, Diocesan Tribunal; Regional Vocations Director, North Schuylkill Deanery, and Advisory Board Member, Cardinal Brennan High School, Ashland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, August 14, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. in The Chapel of the Sacred Heart Convent, Mount Alvernia, 460 South St. Bernadine Street, Reading, PA 19607. Burial will be private.
