Reese J. Davis

Reese J. Davis., 87, formerly of Whitfield, passed away on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in the care of Columbia Cottage in Wyomissing. He was the widower of Joan (Born) Davis, who passed February 26, 1995.

Born in Hazelton to the late Reese L. and Helen (Zigmant) Davis, Reese proudly served in the US Army. After his honorable discharge, he earned a degree from West Chester State Teachers College, and began a 35 year education career in 1957 as a Phys. Ed. teacher at Chester School District. He transferred to Twin Valley in 1959 where he found his passion as a guidance counselor and served as Vice Principal, coached basketball and earned his MA in Education in Guidance and Counseling in 1960 from Villanova University. In 1967, Reese began a 23-year career at Wyomissing Area School District.

At Wyomissing Area High School, Reese continued in Guidance, founding The Career Center and overseeing National Honor Society activities. Reese also coached the boys and girls tennis teams, with six teams going to county finals winning three county championships and five division titles. Reese retired as a guidance counselor in 1990.

Reese loved people, and after retiring from teaching, he worked in various retail positions selling furniture, men's suits, and spirits and wines at a Pennsylvania State liquor store. Reese was socially active and was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, Berks County Tennis Club, Green Valley Country Club, and the YR Club, where he met his wife, Joan.

Reese also loved sports, participating in local tennis and basketball leagues, and was crowned tennis champion in numerous local tournaments. Reese also loved the beaches of Stone Harbor and more recently, the beaches of Lewes, DE where he had a second home. Reese's love of music was lifelong; he played piano by ear, and folk, military marches, and country music were the soundtrack to his daily life.

What Reese loved most was his family. Left to treasure Reese's memory are his children: Reese J. Davis Jr. (Susan Woodring) of Oldsmar, FL; Elizabeth A. Davis (Bruce Bocina) of Edwards, CO; Christine Davis Ennis (Brent) of Whitfield; his grandchildren: Lindsay Davis Bankard, Reese James Davis, Emmanuelle Elizabeth Nafziger, Aubree Veronica Geier, Criag Jon Tebol, Julia Craig Davis; Allyson Christine Ennis, Zoe Joan Ennis; and great grandchildren: Emma Shae, Brooke Charlotte, Arthur Brian, and Madeleine Joan. Reese is also survived by his sister, Mary Sweeney (Dr. Larry Sweeney) of Portola Valley, CA.

In addition to his wife and parents, Reese was predeceased by his son, Craig R. Davis, and his brothers, William, Robert, and John "Jack" Davis.
