Raymond J. Thren, 88 of Hamburg died September 15, 2011, in Pinebrook Assisted Living Center where he had resided the past three years. Raymond was the husband of Kathryn S. (Boltz) Thren who died June 6, 2002. He was born in Reading and was the son of the late Paul and Mary (Henry) Thren. Raymond was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Tilden Township. Raymond was a graduate of Reading High School and a Navy Veteran of WWII. He was the former owner and operator of the Western Auto Store in Hamburg for 41 years. He was a former member of the Hamburg Exchange Club, and a long term volunteer for the Hamburg American Legion Ambulance Association. He was also a director for the former Pennsylvania National Bank of Hamburg. Raymond was a former member of St. Mary Holy Name Society and the Union Fire Company # 1. Raymond was a current member of Union Fire Company #1 Beneficial. Raymond is survived by two sons, Gerald husband of Joyce (Gerhart) Thren, Hamburg, and Donald husband of Jane (Sprigle) Thren, Lancaster and one daughter, Susan C. Prutzman of Hamburg. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Scott husband of Bethany Thren, Hamburg, Angela wife of William Stichter, Mohrsville, Emily Thren, Lancaster, Jasten and Kaitlin Prutzman both of Hamburg, and three great grandchildren, Colby, Madison and Levi. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, September 20th at 1:30 PM in St. Mary R.C. Church, Hamburg. A viewing will be held in the church from 12:00 noon to 1:30 PM. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary Building Fund, 94 Walnut Road, PO Box 189, Hamburg, PA 19526.
