Raymond Eugene McFadden, 93, Reading, passed away on September 6, 2024 at Reading Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Raymond V and Marie J McFadden. Predeceased by his brother, Eugene, and his sister, Alice Marie.
He was a graduate of Holy Child elementary school, LaSalle College High School, the University of Pennsylvania, and earned his masters degree from Drexel University.
Ray was a mechanical engineer for the US Army at Frankford Arsenal until the arsenal closed. He then worked at Gulf and Western as a defense contractor. He went to The Maxwell Institute to learn programming and became a programmer at Conrail. Finally, he taught at Pierce College, where his parents met as students.
Ray, above all, was a humble man. In his own words, he had 'no worries' and would describe himself as "fit as a fiddle". He said "do everything as though you are doing it for The Lord". Ray was a devoted man to Our Lord, Gentlest Jesus, and the Blessed Mother. He made sure all his children went to mass every Sunday, afterwards took them to "Hunts" Candy store in Richboro. He did like his sweets.
He loved his family and was a teacher to all those around him. He would repair the car or anything in the house and have one or more of his children beside him, showing them how to do it. All of his children are mechanically inclined because of him.
Ray was very personable and enjoyed talking to everyone. He liked to be where people gathered and enjoyed all family get-togethers, weddings, birthday parties, and a good parade. He never missed a party! He was definitely a people person. He welcomed all, the more the merrier.
Ray loved to sing, ride bikes, go for Sunday rides and go to the shore.
Some of his favorite songs were:
Dark Town Strutters Ball
Mairzy Doats
Chickery Chick
I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts.
Ray sang these songs to his children.
Some of his favorite sayings are
"treat others as you would want to be treated"
"Offer it up for the poor souls in purgatory"
"If you don't have anything, nice to say, don't say anything at all"
Ray is survived by Mary Rita McFadden and their nine children.
