Ray N. Geschwindt, of Hamburg died in Berks Heim on August 19th, 2014, on his 92nd birthday. Ray was the husband of Edith C. (Adam) Geschwindt of Bern Township. He was born in Shoemakersville and was the son of the late Morris C. and Katie M. (Stitzel) Geschwindt. He was a 1940 graduate of Perry High School and an Army Veteran of WWII. He was a Staff Sergeant serving in the 325th Bombardment Squadron 92nd Bombardment Group. Ray served in England as an Airplane Crew Chief 750 repairing B17'S. He received the Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal. Upon his discharge, he returned to Hamburg and worked at the A&P Market. Ray operated Geschwindt's Catering for 30 years. He catered for weddings receptions, outings, and private parties. He was featured as cook of the Week bar-b-queuing chickens as a fundraiser for many different organizations. Ray also had a passion for all types of trains. Ray was a member of Zion's Church. In addition to his wife, Ray is survived by a daughter, Debra K. wife of Michael Carrier, Temple, two sons, Edward husband of Judith Geschwindt, Muhlenberg Township, Phillip L. husband of Sharon Geschwindt, Hamburg, two sisters Mary Jane widow of James Keim, Wyomissing and Ruth widow of Earl Hasenauer, Elizabethtown. One brother, Harold H. Geschwindt, Shoemakersville, six grandchildren and thirteen great- grandchildren also survive him. A brother, Donald F. Geschwindt, predeceased him. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion's Church, 770 Zion's Church Road, Hamburg, PA 19526. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery. The Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. Hamburg is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be offered at www.burkeydriscoll.com.
