Ralston E. Hummel

Ralston E. "Rollie" Hummel, 81, died September 5, 2010 in his Wyomissing residence.

He was the husband of Dorothy C. (Hurst) Hummel.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Raymond E. and Lettie L. (Seidle) Hummel.

He was a 1947 graduate of Reading High School, where he played on the varsity football and basketball teams in 1946 and 1947. He also played professional football.

Rollie was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed for 40 years by Continental Can, retiring in 1987.

Rollie was an avid sports fan and loved golf.

He was a Ranger from 1987 to 2007 for Green Acres Golf Course.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Lyndell Mason, Shillington, Diane Obrey, Merced, CA and Lisa Hummel, Lakewood CA; two step-sons, Vincent DeNunzio and Keith DeNunzio both of NJ; his sister, Gladys Boyer, Wernersville; his brother, Gordon Hummel, Reiffton; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Rollie was predeceased by five siblings, Roy, Randall, Stanley, Wilbur and Grace.

Services will be Tuesday September 14, 2010 at 11 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Alsace Cemetery.
