Ralph Scott Miller, 90, died on June 23, 2011 at the Wyomissing Nursing Home.
He was born and raised in Fredericksburg, Virginia. A twin son of the late Ida (Shackelford) and Gilbert Randolph Miller.
Ralph's direct ancestor, John Miller, born 1633 traveled from Yorkshire, England to Ireland in 1657. In 1709 John and his wife along with seven of their nine children traveled from near Charlemont, County of Armagh, Ireland to what is now Avondale, PA and purchased 1,013 acres from William Penn. Upon John's death his son James carried out his father's wishes and conveyed 6 acres of his bequeathed 300 for a Quaker Meeting House. The New Garden meeting house is still used today.
Ralph's father, Gilbert, moved to Fredericksburg around 1918 and was a Sargent Major in the U.S. Marine Corp stationed in Quantico, Virginia. Ralph was a conscientious patriot. He attempted to fight for our country by enlisting for World War II twice, but was rejected both times because of a heart disability.
Ralph was a dedicated employee of FMC Corporation for 36 years as Employment and Employee Benefits Supervisor, retiring in 1975. He was a former life member of the Fredericksburg Volunteer Rescue Squad, member of the Fredericksburg Lions Club and a member of the Fredericksburg Country Club. He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Redskins football and the New York Yankees baseball.
In August 1943 he married Angelina Trotta of Vineland, NJ. They were married for 55 years residing in Fredericksburg until their retirement when they moved to Vineland for 23 years. Ralph later moved to Wyomissing, PA after Angie died in 1998 to be nearer his daughter and grandchildren. He was a loving father and grandfather and a devoted brother.
Mr. Miller is survived by one daughter, Janis M., wife of Thomas Sebastian, Reading, PA. There are three grandchildren Scott C. of Shillington, PA; Patrick T. & his spouse Rachel (Shaak) of Wyomissing, PA; and Kelly M. of New York City, NY. One great-granddaughter, Emily J., of Wyomissing, PA. Other survivors include one sister, Alice Snellings, of Fredericksburg, VA.
Deceased brothers and sisters include Dorothy Campbell, Maurice "Sonny" Miller; Margaret Sullivan and Ralph's twin brother Milton Scott; all of Fredericksburg, VA. Also a sister Mildred Lange of Wilmington, DE.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Friday July 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Michael Queen of Angels Church, Minotola, NJ. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Victories Cemetery in Landisville.
