Ralph D. Delong

Ralph D. "Donnie" DeLong, 90, of Kenhorst, died August 7, 2014, in Reading Hospital.

He was the devoted husband of Shirley M. (Davis) DeLong. They would have celebrated their 70th Anniversary on August 22.

Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Robert and Sadie (Keim) DeLong.

He attended Reading High School., until enlisting in the US Navy in December of 1942. He was a torpedoman 3rd class on the destroyer, U.S.S. Harold J. Ellison, where he proudly served as a "Tin Can Sailor" during WW II.

He was a longtime, active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Reading.

Ralph worked for UGI for 40 years as a meter and regulator technician, retiring in 1989.

He loved reading novels, playing cards when he was winning, golf, bowling and traveling with the UGI seniors travel club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his niece, Jennifer DeLong Smith, wife of D. Glen Smith, Dagsboro, DE and goddaughter, Sandra (Hill) Tradewell, wife of William Tradewell, Powder Spring, GA.

Ralph was predeceased by six siblings: Thelma Warr, Kathryn Taylor, Robert DeLong, William DeLong, Howard DeLong and Russell DeLong.

Services will be Saturday August 16, 2014, at 11:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Saturday from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 10th and Windsor Sts. Reading, PA 19604.
