R. Daniel Krize

R. Daniel Krize, 60, died August 2, 2008 in his Muhlenberg Twp. residence. He was the husband of Dorothy "Pokey" Elizabeth (Bobal) Krize, whom he married August 18, 1975. Born September 21, 1947 in Laureldale, he was a son of the late Robert Daniel and Jeannine Anna (Aulenbach) Krize. Dan was a 1965 graduate of Muhlenberg High School. He graduated from Kutztown University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and again in 1972 with a Masters of Education in Social Studies. "Mr. Krize" taught seventh grade Social Studies in the Muhlenberg School District for 35 years, retiring in 2004. During his professional tenure, he served the school in several other capacities, including as an interim assistant principal. For many years he was the coach of the boys and girls bowling teams, helping them to win several county titles.

Upon retirement, Dan served as a member of the Muhlenberg School Board and the Vice-Chairman of the board of the Reading-Muhlenberg Career and Technology Center. He was also a member of the Lions Club of Muhlenberg, Muhlenberg Athletic Boosters, Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees, Berks County Association of School Retirees and the National School Boards Association.

He also proctored GED testing at Reading Area Community College. Dan was also a past director of the Goodwill (Fire Company) Beneficial Association and a board member of the Muhlenberg Swimming Association.

Dan was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Penn State football. He enjoyed supporting all Muhlenberg sports teams and extracurricular activities, attending all types of competitions and events through the years.

Most of all, Dan enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He loved gathering with those he cared about, to talk, catch up and share stories.

Most recently, he enjoyed traveling with other retired Muhlenberg staff. He is also survived by three daughters, Tara Lani, wife of J. Matthew Cavalline, Charlotte, NC; Megan Elizabeth Krize, Baltimore, MD and Jamiee Lynn, wife of Todd Wagner, Muhlenberg Township. Other survivors include two granddaughters, Avery Brynne Cavalline and Quinn Elizabeth Wagner. Two brothers also survive him, Steven J., husband of Katina Krize, Muhlenberg Township and Jon W., husband of Eileen Krize, Birdsboro.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with the Rev. Gerald C. Arndt officiating. Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. in the funeral home.
