Phoebe C. Hatzel

Phoebe C. (Brown) Hatzel, 85, of Phoebe Berks Health Center, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away April 19, 2009 in the Reading Hospital.

She was the widow of Charles W. Carroll who died in 1965, and Clarence F. Hatzel who died in 1994.

Born in St. Clair, PA, she was the daughter of Florence Brown.

She was a graduate of St. Clair High School.

Phoebe was employed for many years as a salesperson for Pomeroy's in Pottsville and Reading, Witner's and Boscov's East. She retired in 1995.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

Phoebe is survived by two sons; James L. Carroll, Altoona, and Patrick J. Carroll, husband of Lisa, Mohnton; and her daughter, Margaret "Peggy" A. (Carroll) Engleman, wife of Carl J., Sr., Mohrsville. There are also four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial followed by Entombment will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in Gethsemane Chapel of Resurrection, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Phoebe Berks, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville, PA. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home,Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
