Peter Panagakos, 85, originally from Brooklyn NY, died February 22, 2011 in St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was a son of the late John and Aspacia (Doukas) Panagakos. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he saw action in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Sullivan during WWII. He also worked in the Navy Guard, post war time, for an additional four years. He was an electrician for Western Electric, and then moved to AT&T where he progressed from a lineman to Engineer. His most notable accomplishment was being on the team that built the World Trade Center. He held dual memberships: Sts. Constanitne and Helen Greek Orthodox Church and Three Hierarchs in Brooklyn, NY. His wife Renee died August 1,1990. Peter is survived by two daughters, June, widow of Victor Podagrosi, Chicago IL and Anne, wife of Fr. Thomas Pappalas, Reading and his sister, Cally Poole, Brooklyn, NY. Four grandchildren, Jennifer Fernez, Peter Pappalas, Michael Podagrosi and Renee Pappalas also survive him. He was predeceased by his brothers, Nick Panagakos and George Panagakos; and his sisters Athena Lind and Betty Nichas. A viewing will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, with Trisagion Prayers beginning at 7 p.m. Burial will be in Cypress Hills Cemetery, Brooklyn, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to: Sts.
