Peter Andrew Narusewicz, 55, of Reading, died June 20, 2012, in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Bahar R. Diken and the gift of her life. Peter was the son of Philip Narusewicz, Princeton, NJ and the late Margaret (Woodruff) Narusewicz, and the brother of James Narusewicz.
After four years of service in the U.S. Navy, Peter traveled all around the world. He received his master's degree in English from the College of New Jersey and his Ph.D. from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. His dissertation, Rooted in the Land, explores the human/nature connection. Central to his thesis is the idea that "an experience with the wild might allow one to think in a way outside the confines of sanctioned and regulated thought." Peter admired the work of Edward Abbey, who says, in The Journey Home, "The earth, like the sun, like the air, belongs to everyone—and to no one."
Peter taught English at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Lock Haven University, and Kutztown University, and was a great teacher.
He was a lover of nature, the beach, and his family. He hiked on the Appalachian Trail and was dreaming to complete the entire journey with his dog, Charlie. "That accomplished," he would say, "I will retire to my home and compose one good novel."
Unfortunately, life changes fast. He broke his ankle on a beautiful June day, and then--gone. He is no longer in our lives—but will always be in our hearts.
Local services will be private at the convenience of the family. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
