Peter "Poppy" Jenckes, 85, of Greenfields, passed away Friday, October 17, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. His wife of 63 years, Margaret (Guenther) Jenckes, was by his side.
Peter was born July 19, 1929 in Wyomissing, PA. He was the son of the late George A., Sr. and Marian (Hassinger) Jenckes.
He was a graduate of the Berkshire School, Scheffield, MA; and Washington & Jefferson College, Washington, PA. After college he served in the Army, in Korea, during the Korean War.
Peter was co-owner of Faerie Silk Mills and owner of Jenckes & Company Investments. He served as a supervisor on the Borough Council of Mohnton and on the zoning board of Maxatawny Township. He was also past Chairman of the Heart Fund.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by 5 children: Margaret H. Jenckes and Linda J. Bailey, both of Kutztown; Betsy J., wife of Charles C. Koch of Greenfields; Robert H. of Plainfield, NJ; and E. John of Baltimore, MD. Peter was predeceased by one son, Peter H. Jenckes, Jr. He also survived by a daughter-in-law, Susan H. Jenckes and a cousin Edward Delany. He was predeceased by a sister, Louise J. Evans and a brother, George A. Jenckes.
Peter had 6 grandchildren: Meghan Koch, Charley Koch, partner of Mike Yoon, Jonathan, husband of Lindsay Koch; Jessica Thomashefsky; Michael Thomashefsky; and Peter H. Jenckes, III.
Funeral services will be private, held at the family convenience. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Historic Preservation Trust of Berks County to benefit the Mouns Jones House in Douglasville, Pa or Hawk Mountain Sanctuary in Peter's name. Edward J.
