Paul R. Penatzer, 88, of Wyomissing, formerly of Drexelwood, passed away March 10, 2012 in Phoebe Berks.
He was the beloved husband of Theresa H. (Hushwood) Penatzer, whom he married 65 years ago on September 14, 1946.
Born in Summerhill, he was a son of the late John J. and Kathryn A. (Koch) Penatzer.
He attended Drexel University, Philadelphia, however much of his education was self taught. He was a firm believer that everything in life was a learning experience and a chance to grow.
He was an engineer for over 35 years at Atlantic Refining, Philadelphia and Reading, retiring in 1986.
Paul was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in the South Pacific during WWII for which he earned the Bronze Star Medal.
He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield where he served as Eucharistic Minister.
Paul was a member and past president of the Serra Club of Reading as well as the St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Ignatius.
He was an avid Phillies fan, regardless of their wins or losses. He always had an appreciation for art but didn't start painting until later in life. He loved the art of nature and spending time outdoors.
Paul was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His subtle teachings in life instilled within his children his virtues of responsibility, loyalty, spirituality and integrity. He will be dearly missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children: Helenmarie, wife of Richard L. Fries, New Milford; Janet T., wife of Roger S. Conklin, New Milford; Paul B., husband of Barbara L. Penatzer, Orlando, FL and Julia Ann, wife of Tony Faw, Crownsville, MD. Also surviving are his siblings: Ernest J. Penatzer, Summerhill; Robert M. Penatzer, Summerhill and Martin J. Penatzer, Newark, CA. Seven grandchildren: Theresa, Rachel, Sarah, Matthew, Melissa, Tara, Ryan and six great-grandchildren: Spencer, Gabriel, Noah, Maia, Owen and Jack survive him.
Other survivors include many dear, close friends including: Ray and Dianne Zerbe and Patty and Jules Frankel.
He was predeceased by his siblings: Raymond, Charlotte, Joann, Elizabeth and Richard.
The family would like to extend great thanks and gratitude to the staff of Phoebe Berks Nursing Center for all their wonderful care of Paul.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 11:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, 2810 Saint Albans Dr Sinking Spring, PA 19608. Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery. Due to a severe allergy, the family asks that no flowers be sent; in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society, c/o St. Ignatius Loyola R.C.
