Paul R. Boyer, 88, formerly of Laureldale, died September 23, 2012 in Orwigsburg Center.

He was the widow of Anna (Kutryb) Boyer who died October 26, 1992.

Born May 23, 1924 in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late Winfield Scott and Marie Christine (Sandrock) Boyer.

Paul was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School.

He served in the U.S. Air Force, 20th A.F., during World War II. Assigned to the South Pacific, he became a crew chief and gunner on B-29 bombers and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Paul was employed with Conrail Railroad for 38 years, as a conductor and brakeman, retiring April 17, 1984.

He was a member of Holy Guardian Angel's Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

Paul was a member of Central Fire Company Beneficial Association, United Transportation Union and Brotherhood of Railroad Train Men.

Surviving are his three children: James J., husband of Betsy Burtelow, of Buffalo Grove, IL; Richard Boyer of St. Petersburg, FL and Beverly Ann Imschweiler, fiancée of John Nickerson, of Port Carbon, PA.

In addition, surviving are a grandson, Jared, husband of Rachel (Rauenzahn) Imschweiler and a great grandson, Austin Imschweiler of Minersville, PA.

Paul was predeceased by his youngest son, David D. Boyer, in 2003 and his four siblings: Margaret (Boyer) Smith, Evelyn (Boyer) Shandri, Winifred (Boyer) Murphy and William Boyer.

A Memorial Mass will be held, Monday, October 1st at 11 a.m. in The Chapel of Resurrection at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Muhlenberg Township. A visitation will be held from 9-10:30 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.
