Paul S. Maier, 84, died February 11, 2008 in his Wyomissing residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Joyce A. (Yocom) Maier, with whom he celebrated their 58th anniversary on the date of his death.
Born on November 13, 1923 in Reading, he was a son of the late Gottlieb and Stella (Faust) Maier.
He was general manager in charge of production and quality control and served as the corporation's assistant secretary for Maier's Bakery, Reading, retiring in 1988.
Paul was a graduate of Reading High School in 1941 and of the American Institute of Baking, Chicago, IL.
Paul previously served as a director of Pennsylvania Baker's Association and was a past president of the Central Pennsylvania Baker's Association. He was also the former president of the Sertoma Club of Reading and was a member of the Berks County Historical Society and the Reading Museum.
Paul was a Master Mason and was a 61 year member of Chandler Lodge No. 227 of the Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania. He also was a 32nd degree Mason belonging to the Scottish Rite Bodies in the Valley of Reading Consistory and was a member of the Rajah Shrine.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II in Battery "A", 13th Field Artillery Observation Battalion, where he spent 23 months overseas and was a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge.
Paul was a member of the Reading, PA Chapter LXIV; Veteran's of the Battle of the Bulge, Inc.
He was a member of Atonement Lutheran Church, Wyomissing, where he had served on the church council and was an usher.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Deborah J. Maier, Shillington and Marcia J. wife of Rev. Robert Burkhart, Mohnton. There is also one sister, Rosemarie Reinsel, Sinking Spring. Three grandchildren: Sarah Lowman Roy; Chief Warrant Officer Three, James A. Lowman and Lara Burkhart; and two great-grandchildren, Emily Lowman and Charles Louis Roy also survive him. He was predeceased by one brother, Carl Maier; and three sisters, Emily Maier, Anna Williams and Helen Rimby.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd., Wyomissing, PA 19610. Burial will be private in Forest Hills Memorial Park. Friends may call Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, with Masonic Services beginning at 7:30 p.m. Friends may also call Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in Atonement Lutheran Church.
