The ' Good Guys ' lost another long time member on November 27, 2012 when Paul Milton Wolfinger, of Muhlenberg Twp, took his final voyage, temporarily leaving his high school sweetheart, Fern (Hetrich) Wolfinger.
Paul was born in Hamburg on July 15, 1923, the son of the late Milton Jefferson and Lucretia (Zimmerman) Wolfinger. He was pre-deceased by his brother, Dale L. Wolfinger of Pine Grove. Paul was a 1941 graduate of Reading High School, where he met life long friends including his wife, Fern. Shortly after graduation, Paul enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the USS Swivel for her shakedown cruise. Paul spent the next 3 years on the Swivel, proudly supporting our WW2 troops off the coast of Europe.
Upon returning home, Paul regained employment at Metropolitan Edison Co. where hard work and dedication led to numerous promotions, the last being as a system load-dispatcher. Paul always viewed himself as a " company man " and again remained "on board ship", this time for 41 years and until his retirement in 1983.
Paul believed in good work ethic and valued a hard days work for just pay. Paul was raised to believe that everyone should have the opportunity to show their net worth, regardless of their race or religion and he taught these values to his family.
Paul was an active member of Grace Alsace UCC. He valued his friends, many of whom were fellow hunters and golfers. He was a loyal husband and good father and was proud of the family that he and his wife created. Paul is survived by Fern, his wife of 66 years, his daughter Carol Stone, wife of James Stone, Fleetwood, son Steven, husband of Mary Gentile Wolfinger, three grandchildren, Karin Kupper, Amy Dolla and Paul T. Wolfinger and 4 great grandchildren, Eric Kupper, Jared Kupper, Jordan Kupper and Daniel Dolla.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc. 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the the service. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hamburg.
The family would like to thank the staff of Berks Heim for their kind and professional care of Paul these past 18 months. For online condolences, visit www.christfuneralhome.com.
