Paul "Skip" Hamaker, Jr., 79, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township since May 6, 2010 and formerly of Laureldale, died in the early morning hours of December 10, 2013 in Reading Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was the husband of Jean Mae (Sweitzer) Hamaker, whom he married May 16, 1969.
Born September 22, 1934 in West Reading, he was a son of the late Paul Schultz, Sr. and Katherine Mae (Wagonseller) Hamaker.
Skip was a 1952 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.
He was employed as a heating contractor with Hamaker's Heating for 48 years.
Skip was a mason with Chandler Lodge #227. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, National Muzzle Loader and Rifle Association andExcelsior Royal Arch Chapter #237.
He was a founding father of Whispering Pines Cap and Flint, Tioga County, PA.
Skip was an avid Philadelphia sports teams fan.
A well-known scrimshander and power horn maker, Skip was a member of The Honourable Company of Horners, a world wide guild of horn makers..
Surviving, in addition to his wife, is his daughter, Brenda Ann (Rothermel), wife of Fred Cutler of Laureldale.
Other survivors include his two sisters, Gail, wife of Mal Homan of Temple and Brenda, wife of Gino Gaspari of Wyomissing.
There are three grandchildren surviving: Christopher, Timothy and Kimberly Huey.
He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Skip was predeceased by two brothers, Ronald and Donald Hamaker.
The family would like to thank ManorCare for their excellent care given to Skip during his time there.
A Memorial Service will be held January 18th at 12 noon in Kuhn-Stitzel Funeral Homes and Crematory, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
