Dr. Patrick A. Mazza, 78, of Orchard Road, died of natural causes Oct. 6 in his residence.
He was the husband of Marguerite D. (Davy) Mazza.
Born in New Haven, Conn., he was a son of the late Patrick A. Sr. and Jeannette (Aiello) Mazza.
Mazza had been self-employed as a family physician in Reading from 1953 until his retirement in 1998. Mazza also practiced at the Family Medical Center, St. Lawrence, from 1970 until 1975.
He was the founding director of family practice residency at St. Joseph Medical Center, from 1975 until 1980. He also served as staff president at St. Joseph from January 1974 until June 1975.
Mazza had served as both assistant clinical professor, and preceptor to physician assistant, at both Hershey Medical School and Hahnemann University of Philadelphia. He additionally served as diplomate for the American Academy of Family Practice.
He was a 1942 graduate of Central Catholic High School.
He received a degree in biology from Notre Dame University, Indiana, in 1945 and he received his medical degree in 1950 from Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia.
Mazza was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading.
He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
Mazza is also survived by a daughter, Mary B. (Mazza) Box, Atlanta; and three sons: Patrick A., Seattle; James P., Wernersville; and Christopher R., Kenhorst.
Other survivors include a sister, Diane Mazza, Mays Landing, N.J.; and a brother, John A., Shillington.
There are also four grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, West Reading. Friends may call Saturday 8 - 9 a.m. in the funeral home. Inurnment will take place in Gethsemane Mausoleum, Laureldale. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
