Patricia A. Cavanaugh

Patricia A. Cavanaugh, lifelong educator, 84, formerly of Reading, died on June 4, 2022, at the Laurel Center.

Born in Pottsville, Schuylkill County, she was a daughter of the late John M. and Dorothy L. (Wilson) Cavanaugh.

She was a graduate of Millersville University where she earned a master's degree in English.

After graduating, Patricia taught for 20 years at Reading Area Community College, Harrisburg Area Community College, and various other schools, transforming the lives of many students. Pat served the Girl Scouts for years, sharing adventures with her girls and fellow leaders. Among these, perhaps the most special were camping at Camp Furnace Hills, many crafts, and lots of badge work.

She was an avid reader, a lover of arts, and enjoyed listening to John Denver. She had a real eye for design, and enjoyed painting, decorating, and fashion. Patricia loved cats and recued numerous felines from local shelters. She was a member of the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Berks County.

Patricia is survived by her daughter, Elaine W., wife of Alan D. Cook, Mohrsville; two grandchildren, Kevin L. Cook and Meghan A. Cook. She is also survived by her sister, Sarah Cavanaugh, Lancaster, and several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Sophie.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Diane E. Wilson.
