Pamela Jean Barnhardt, 72, of Sinking Spring, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, in the care of Reading Hospital. She was the beloved wife of Kevin S. Barnhardt, with whom she shared over 44 years of marriage.
Born and raised in West Reading, Pam was a daughter of the late Peter V. and Phyllis (Wyld) Rivers. She was a member of the first graduating class of Wyomissing High School.
She began her career in the print industry and held various positions. She later worked in domestic relations. Pam served for several years as a Client Services Manager for the Sovereign Center of Reading. Pam retired at 62 after several years with the Berks County Court of Common Pleas.
Pam lived to make other people happy. Her home was often filled with laughter, love, and delicious aromas from her kitchen. She cherished Sunday evening dinners with her family, especially with her beloved grandchildren. Friends and family will forever remember her for her incredible parfaits, delectable pineapple filling, rich French onion soup, and her world-class shepherd's pie. Pam was not only known for organizing gatherings-she was the life of the party! Her culinary creations brought joy to countless backyard parties and served as a testament to her love for others.
Known as the "Purse Lady," Pam was a member of the West Lawn Quoiting Club.
While a resident of West Reading, during snow storms she made hot dinners for the plow drivers and the police force. For many years at Easter time, she organized basket drives for Bethany Children's Home and many other shelters in the area. Through her kind efforts, she donated over 250 baskets annually, delighting the spirits of many children in need.
Talented and crafty, she made many drapes and other hand-crafted decorations for her home. She loved to decorate and had grand plans for her and Kevin's Florida retirement home. Her craftiness was also manifested in her love of wrapping presents, something that many recipients will miss.
Pam will be remembered for her joy in life and her legacy of generously giving.
Left to treasure her memory is her devoted husband, Kevin; loving son, Christopher Barnhardt of Denver, PA; her beloved grandchildren, Bryner W. and Adyson P. Barnhardt; her sister, Patricia Schafer, widow of William, of Eustis, FL; and her canine companions, "The Kids" Buddy and Bella. In addition to her parents, Peter and Phyllis, she was predeceased by her older brother, Vic "Butch" Rivers, who had been an inspiration to Pam throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Pam's memory may be offered to the Shriner's Children Hospital, https://donate.shrinerschildrens.org/.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
