Otto Frederick Sattler, 87, of Muhlenberg Township, died November 17, 2011 in Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
He was the husband of Mary (Daniels) Sattler, whom he married February 1, 1953.
Born April 6, 1924, in Reading, he was a son of the late Otto and Mary (Komlodi) Sattler.
Otto was a graduate of Central Catholic High School.
He was employed as a welder with Met-Ed Corporation for 38 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, Otto, along with other men from Titus Station met once a month for breakfast.
Otto served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He served on the USS Manning DE 199 and was docked in Charleston, SC.
He was a member of St. Matthew's Greek Orthodox Church, Blandon.
Otto was a member of Goodwill Fire Company Beneficial Association, Oakbrook Fire Company Beneficial Association, VFW Post #38, Victor Emmanuel II Club, Young Men's Democratic Association of Berks County, Pike Township Sportsman's Association, Ivy Leaf Association.
An outdoorsman, Otto loved gardening and hunting and was a n avid Phillies and Eagles fan. Above all else, however, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Also surviving are three children: Cally A., wife of James A. Springer of Centre Township, Michael G. Sattler of Muhlenberg Township and Kathleen, wife of William F. Strickler of Cumru Township.
Other survivors include a sister, Helen Koehler of Sinking Spring; seven grandchildren, Cara Sharp, Kelly Sattler, Nicole Sattler, Michelle Hassler, Jessica Springer, Alyssa Strickler and Blake Strickler and three great-grandchildren, Dylan Sharp, Gianna Sharp and Avrie Hassler.
Otto was predeceased by a sister, Rose Duffin.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held an hour prior to service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Exeter Township.
