Onysyp "Jimmy" Spinka, Temple, died Wednesday night in the Reading Hospital after 88 years of active life. A graduate of Muhlenberg High School, Onysyp was born in Temple in 1919 where he lived among family his entire life. He was a son to the late Onysyp, Sr. and Anna (nee Tomko) Spinka.
James was a member of Christ Church United Church of Christ in Temple and a lifetime member of the Temple Fire Company. Retired for the past twenty years from Wertz Engineering Company, he and Anna enjoyed playing bingo, visiting family and keeping the home wood stove burning. Onysyp will be long remembered as a caring husband, an inspiring parent and grandparent with a great sense of humor, always willing to help others and energetic to the end. He was much loved and will be sadly missed.
Onysyp is survived by his adored wife, Anna V. (nee Kline) of 64 years; friends and family knew them as inseparable. An Army veteran of World War II, he is also survived by two sons, James L., husband of Peggy (nee Wunsch) Spinka of Riverview Park and Terry L. Spinka of Temple; two grandsons Mark and Brandon; three great-grandchildren Emily, Lindsey and Ryder. Born into a large family of fifteen, Onysyp also has four surviving siblings, Stephen Spinka of Temple, George Spinka of Tampa, FL, Adam Spinka of Temple and Pearl (nee Spinka) Kalin of Stowe, PA.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale. A viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Berks County Memorial Gardens, Maidencreek Township.
