Onofre Q. Villanueva

Onofre Quijano Villanueva, M.D., 87, of Wyomissing, died December 14, 2011 in The Reading Hospital and Medical Center.

He was the husband of Beata (Mistica) Villanueva.

Born June 21, 1924 in Liliw, Laguna Philippines, he was a son of the late Gonzalo and Maria (Quijano) Villanueva.

Onofre was a graduate of Laguna High School, Philippines and a 1956 graduate of University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine, Manila, Philippines.

After graduating from medical college, Onofre moved to the United States of America and served his internship, residency, and general practice residency at Our Lady of Victory Hospital, Lackawanna, NY. He served his pediatrics residency at Myer Memorial Hospital, Buffalo, NY.

From 1970 until 1982, Onofre opened a practice in pediatrics in Ft. Wayne, IN. After that, he moved to Berks County and subsequently worked as a staff physician at Hamburg Center, Hamburg from 1982 to 1992 where he retired, as Medical Director, in 1992.

Onofre was a member of Pennsylvania Medical Society, American Medical Association, and Ft. Wayne Medical Society.

He was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola R.C. Church, Whitfield.

He was an avid golfer and loved to cook, but most of all was a wonderful Lolo to his grandson, Jason.

Also surviving is a daughter, Sandra M. Villanueva, wife of Ron D. Southwick, and their son, Jason R., all of Stevens, East Cocalico Township.

Other survivors include three sisters, Loreta Zulaybar of Philippines, Librada Brul of Alberta, Canada and Remedios Borlaza of Philippines. Onofre was predeceased by two brothers, Rodolfo and Vicente Villanueva.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading. A viewing will be held Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum.
