Omaira Vergara Haase, formerly of Wyomissing Hills, passed away on 12/11/24 at Berks Heim. She was born on 6/9/1928 in Cali, Colombia. She later moved to Bogota where she spent most of her formative years. In school, she excelled at all secretarial functions, especially shorthand. These skills helped her become an executive secretary which guided her to the United States. She immigrated in 1958, initially to Richmond, Virginia and later to the New York Metropolitan area. It was there, in Central Park, that she met her future husband and love of her life, Robert Haase, who passed away in 2011. Together they raised a family in Woodridge, New Jersey and had two children.
She is predeceased by a son, Bertram Haase, and siblings Absalon, Alba and Anais. She is survived by a daughter, Corinna (Stephen) Owens, Bernville, Pa and daughter in law, Deborah (Dean) Vascone, Boca Raton, FL. She will be sorely missed by her grandchildren; Lucas (Andressa) Haase, Coral Springs, FL, Miriam (Nathan) Haase, Boca Raton, FL, Priscilla (John) Rodgers, Deerfield Beach, FL., Thomas Owens, Bernville, Pa and Myrarose Owens, Manhattan, NY. She was also a great grandmother to Camilla.
Omaira was a beautiful and selfless person. She had tremendous courage and was a constant giver of joy and love; her family meant everything to her. She loved to sing, dance, read poetry, lounge by the water and listen to Dr Becker. If she touched your life, you were lucky as she was simply just a wonderful human being.
Omaira was of Roman Catholic faith and always trusted in the Lord. Services and interment will be private.
The family thanks all the staff at Berks Heim for their support and care during her stay.
