Retired Firefighter Norman L. Fryberger, 78, of Spring Township, crossed over to the Light of Christ on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at 15:52 hours. He was born in Reading to the late Norman and Mae (Esterly) Freyberger.
Norman was a City of Reading Firefighter from February 1977 until his retirement in June of 1997. He also served as a Police Officer for the City of Reading from 1964 through 1967, leaving the force after being shot in the line of duty. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving active duty during the Vietnam War and during the Cuban Missile Crisis, and serving in the Naval Reserves during Operation Desert Storm. He retired from the Navy Reserves as a Chief Petty Officer.
Norman's memory is treasured by his children: Wesley Fryberger of Somers Point, NJ; Tracey Yeagley of West Lawn; Lance Fryberger (Karyn) of Kenhorst; and Melissa Reber (John Reber Jr.) of Kenhorst; his grandchildren; Ashley Fryberger of Philadelphia; Drew Fryberger of Kenhorst; and Paige Fryberger of Kenhorst; and his partner, Maria Biancone. Norman is also survived by his siblings, Gary Freyberger and Donna Freyberger, both of Reading.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ronald Freyberger, and sister, Betty Freyberger.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Norman's memory may be offered to the Wounded Warrior Project, 600 River Avenue, Suite 400, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15212.
Norman's service to his home and country will be honored and celebrated at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on August 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM.
