Noel R. Slonaker

Noel R. Slonaker, 75 of Reading died June 10 in Reading Hospital where he had been since May 31.

His wife June A. (Sterner) Slonaker died March 24, 2002.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Noel S. and Florence G. (Brown) Slonaker.

He was a graduate of Muhlenberg High School in 1947 and of Kutztown University in 1958. He later earned him Master's Degree from Temple university, Philadelphia in Political Science.

Slonaker was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Navy.

He was a teacher for 36 years employed by both the Oley Valley and Muhlenberg School Districts. For eight years he taught at Oley Valley High School, then for 28 years he taught at Muhlenberg High School. He taught Social Studies at both schools.

Slonaker also coached Junior High Boys Basketball for 28 years at both Oley and Muhlenberg.

He is survived by two sons, Kenneth R., Reading and Brad R., Altoona. There are also 3 grandchildren. He was predeceased by one daughter, Deborah L. (Slonaker) Weik. She died May 3, 2005.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 PM in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Burial will be in Laureldale Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 12 noon to 1 PM. Contributions may be made to Berks Visiting Nurse Association/Hospice 1170 Berkshire Boulevard Wyomissing, PA 19610.
