Nicholas David Lengyel, 101, died at Phoebe Berks Village, on May 20 with family by his side. He is predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Sophia (2021).
Born in Pottstown, PA on November 25, 1924, Nick was the youngest child of Michael and Sophia (Mondik) Lengyel. He was a graduate of Pottstown H.S.
Nick served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during World War II, as part of the Greatest Generation. After military service he worked as an Electrical Designer for Gilbert Associates, Reading, for 32 years.
Nick devoted his life to God and to his family.
He enjoyed hunting at his cabin in Clinton County, PA. He loved polka dancing with Sophia, golf, casino bus trips, poker, shooting craps, and was a devoted Giants and Red Sox fan. He always put a smile on people’s faces with a ready joke. He was the epitome of generosity.
Nick was a longtime member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, Reading, and a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols.
Nick is survived by son Dave and wife Diana of Zephyrhills, FL, grandchildren Sean, Victoria and Edward; son Tommy and wife Donna of Frazer, PA, grandchildren Erik, Madeline, Francesca and great-grandson Luka; daughter Elaine and husband Chris of Meriden, CT, granddaughters Sara (Alex) and Deja, and great grandchildren Ena and Koda.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael and Paul Lengyel, and two sisters, Marguerite Barkasi and Anne Hovanec.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Phoebe Berks, Heartland Hospice, St Ignatius Parish and Sr. Caroline for their great care and spiritual support.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, June 5, 10 a.m. at the Phoebe Berks Chapel, 1 Reading Dr., Wernersville, PA, for a celebratory mass. Interment with military honors will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery, Reading
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to SS. Cyril and Methodius Church, Reading.
