Nicholas J. Kopicz, 92 of Centre Township, died peacefully at home on September 3rd, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Nicholas was born in Evansville, PA and was the son of the late Harry and Valencia (Bozar) Kopicz. He was the husband of Verna M. (Miller) Kopicz to whom he was married to for 71 years on July 10, 2014. Nick was a WWII veteran serving as a Sargent squad leader and in the combat Infantry. He served in the Rhineland, Central Europe, Ardennes and Normandy. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge 44, Unit Citation, and Good conduct Medal. He was wounded in St. George D"Elle France on June 23, 1944. He was a founding member of the Centerport Milk Haulers, and 50-year member of the Centerport Grange and Grange Master for three years of Pomona Grange. Nicholas was a member of Central Berks Fire Company, and the parents committee of Berks county 4-H Baby Beef. Nick was also a member of Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and a member of Lehigh Valley Dairies. In 1968 his family was voted Outstanding Farm Family of Berks County. Nicholas was a member of Shoemakersville Senior Citizens and a faithful member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Tilden Township. He enjoyed farming, casino trips, country music, world news and driving his pick up to check on his three farms and their crops. He also enjoyed going to farm sales and loved being with his family and was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. In addition to his wife, Nicholas is survived by his four children, Richard husband of Sandy Kopicz, Bruce husband of Cathy Kopicz and Carol wife of Randy Weyer all of Centre Township and Leonard Kopicz companion of Cathy Stoudt, Reinholds. He is also survived by grandchildren, Bradley, Ryan, Troy, Andrew, Lisa, Alicia, Chad and Mark and a step-grandson, David and four great-grandchildren. A brother also survives Nicholas; Harry Kopicz and a sister, Helen Heffner, both of Fleetwood. Leon Bozar and Mary James predeceased him. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM from St. Mary R.C. Church, 94 Walnut Road, Hamburg, PA. 19526. A viewing will be held at the church from 9:00 to 11:00 AM.
