Nicholas S. Knauer, 75, of Reading passed away peacefully on Friday, July 10, 2026, after a long battle with dementia.
Born in Reading, Nik was the son of the late Mary (Malanios) Bauman and stepson to the late David Bauman.
Nik spent many years in the New York area pursuing his passion for photography. After relocating to Reading, he established Nik Knauer Photography. Specializing in fashion and commercial photography, he was a skilled photographer willing to capture all of life's special moments in addition to his editorial work. In addition to his photography, Nik found meaning through his work as a paramedic.
Anyone who knew Nik's sense of humor would appreciate that he would be proud to have not died of lung cancer, despite his decades-long smoking habit. He enjoyed fishing but had a complicated relationship with bowling. Nik looked forward to the simple joy of taking his dogs for walks. The Adirondacks, particularly Piseco Lake, were special places to him. Above all things, he treasured his children.
Nik is survived by his daughter, Jorja Knauer, and son, David Knauer (husband of Brenna Knauer). He is also survived by his former wife, Gail Knauer, and his sister, Marilyn Banks. He was predeceased by a lifetime's worth of good dogs, most notably Buster, Gus, and Cody.
A Celebration of Life for Nick will be announced at a future date. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
