Nicholas Ward Altemus

Nicholas (Nick) Ward Altemus, 68, of Robesonia, passed away on August 15, 2015, in Reading Hospital.

He was the husband of Marie S. (Sailer) Altemus whom he married August 20, 1966.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Edward Lee and Eleanor (Ward) Altemus.

Nick was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania where he received a BA in Philosophy.

He was the owner of N.W Altemus & Co., Robesonia, from 1979 until his retirement earlier this year.

He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Whitemarsh.

Nick was a member of the Society of the War of 1812 in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania; The Philadelphia Society for Promoting Agriculture; The Numismatic & Antiquarian Society of Philadelphia; Williamson Lodge No. 307 F. and A.M. of Pennsylvania; Aurora Gun Club, White Pidgeon Club and a life member of the NRA.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Victoria Altemus, wife of Samuel deWitt Preston, Exeter Township; and Marie Elizabeth Altemus, wife of Adam H. Hedbavny, North Heidelberg Township. Five grandchildren, Alexandra, Samuel, Rebecca, Jacob and Christopher also survive him.

Nicholas is predeceased by his brother, Edward L. Altemus, Jr.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 12th at 11:00 am in St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 610 Church Rd, Fort Washington, PA 19034. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Western Berks Ambulance or Berks Visiting Nurse Association. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc. are in charge of arrangements.
