Nevin G. Burkert

Nevin G. Burkert, 89, of Hamburg, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in Geisinger St. Luke's Hospital, Orwigsburg.

He was the beloved husband of Shirley A. Burkert.

Born in Buena Vista, Berks County, he was the son of the late Elwood and Katie (Gehret) Burkert.

Nevin was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Hamburg.

He was an U.S. Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, working with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

Nevin was employed at Wolfe Dye & Bleach Works, Inc., Shoemakersville, for 46 years, last working as a supervisor. After retiring, he worked at St. John's Cemetery for three years and also worked at St. Michael's Cemetery for three years.

He belonged to the Hamburg Lions Club for 13 years, Goodwill Fire Company & Beneficial, Hamburg Fire Company, Mt. Aetna Fire Company, and the Hamburg V.F.W..

In addition to his wife Shirley, Nevin is survived by a son: Philip, husband of Michelle Burkert; two grandchildren; Megan and Matthew; and one brother; Richard G. Burkert.

Nevin was predeceased by two sisters: Edna (Burkert) Davis and Elsie Burkert and two brothers, Melvin Burkert and Arthur Burkert.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 19, 2021, at 10 A.M., at Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, 40 South 4th Street, Hamburg. Burial will be at a future date. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home from 9 A.M. to 10 A.M.
