Natale "Chris" Carabello, retired long-time city barbershop operator, died Oct. 28 at 5:47 a.m. in Reading Hospital, where he had been a patient two days.

Carabello, 90, Reading, was predeceased by his wife, Mariantonia (DiPaola) Carabello, on May 6, 1996.

He was the owner-operator of the Chris Carabello Barber Shop, Reading, for 59 years, retiring in 1989.

Born in Caronia, Sicily, Italy, he was a son of the late Biagio and Josephine (Carabello) Carabello.

Carabello was a member of Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, Reading.

He was a past president and treasurer of the Sons of Italy Lodge, Reading, for the past 30 years.

Carabello was the first chairman of the Columbus Day Committee in Reading in 1959.

He was one of the founders of the Master Barbers Association in Berks County.

Surviving are a son, Salvatore N., at home; and a daughter, Joanne C. (Carabello) Keltz, West Reading.

Other survivors include a sister, Joan C. (Carabello) Fick, Kenhorst.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 11 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, 237 Franklin Street, Reading, Pa 19602. Viewing Sunday evening 7:00 - 9:00 pm and Monday morning 10:00 - 10:30 am in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum, Laureldale. Contributions may be made to the church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
