Nancy Rehr

Nancy Lou Bain Rehr, 96, entered into the presence of her Lord on July 27, 2026. She passed away peacefully at Phoebe Berks Village in Wernersville, Pennsylvania, after spending most of her life in Wyomissing Hills, Pennsylvania.

Born in Chevy Chase, Maryland, Nancy was the daughter of Florence (Larsen) Bain and Henry
McRaven Bain. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce Roger Rehr; her parents; and her brother, Henry McRaven Bain, Jr.

Nancy graduated from Dickinson College in 1951 with a degree in English. A gifted writer and lifelong lover of language, she continued to write and journal throughout her life. At Dickinson, she was an active member of the Phi Mu sorority, "a canasta fiend", and played hockey and volleyball. She cherished the many lifelong friendships she made. It was at Dickinson that she met the love of her life, Bruce Roger Rehr.

Nancy and Bruce were married on July 21, 1951, at Chevy Chase Methodist Church. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, friendship, and love. Known affectionately to their children as "Cool Bruce and Swingin' Nance", they shared a loving marriage that endured until Bruce's passing in 1989.

Faith and family were the cornerstones of Nancy's life and the sources of her greatest happiness. She is survived by four children: Roger Bruce Rehr and wife Catherine Mokede, Linda Rehr Patton Lytvinenko and husband John Lytvinenko, Garrett Henry Rehr and wife Rosanne Colangelo Rehr, and Scott Lambert Rehr and wife Yvette Spangler Rehr. She is also survived by seven grandchildren: Mar Rehr, Barrett Rehr, Victoria Rehr and husband Ben Ellis, Allison Rehr McGrath and husband Chris McGrath, Andi Rehr and wife Ana Huysentruyt, Margaret Rehr and Christine Rehr. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Mariah Hope Rehr-Ellis and Bennett Mason McGrath, her brother Henry's partner Judith Libert and nephews and nieces including Alexander McRaven Bain and his partner Kathryn Steele.

Nothing brought Nancy and Bruce greater joy than gathering their family together for holidays, cookouts, and the after-church Sunday lunch. The highlight of every year was the family's summer vacation in Stone Harbor or Avalon, New Jersey, where days were filled with laughter, beach walks, spirited games of Hearts, and memorable dinner outings. After Bruce's passing, Nancy lovingly continued the tradition, welcoming new family members into the fold and ensuring that the shore vacation remained a treasured annual gathering. Her children and grandchildren proudly continue that tradition today.

Nancy was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Reading, Pennsylvania, where she and Bruce were active participants in the life of the congregation, including the church's Couples Club. She later became a devoted member of Advent Lutheran Church and then West Lawn United Methodist Church. Faith guided Nancy's life, and particularly her devotion to Jesus and his teachings. She was active in Bible Study Fellowship. Anyone who knew Nancy knew that she always "led with love." Her children and all who knew her were blessed with her deep commitment to character and a non-judging love of all of God's children.

Nancy's family will remember her as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, faithful friend, and woman of deep faith whose warmth, wisdom, gentle encouragement and loving smile enriched countless lives.

A Celebration of Life for family and friends will follow at a later date, to be determined. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church (Reading, PA), West Lawn United Methodist Church (West Lawn, PA), or Phoebe Berks Retirement Community (Wernersville, PA).
