Nancy L. Nice (57) of Wyomissing, passed away in her residence, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born, November 27, 1958 in the Reading Hospital, she was the daughter to Raymond (Ted) Leas and Dorothy (Dot) Leas of Spring Township.
Nancy was the Homecoming Queen of Wyomissing High School graduating in 1976. She continued on to the University of Delaware, graduating in 1980 with a double major in Chemistry and Food Science.
She was married for 33 years to her high school sweetheart, Frederick M. Nice, who she dated seven years before marriage.
Nancy began her career at MDS Laboratories in Reading, Pennsylvania doing primarily toxicology work. After getting married, she moved to Silver Spring, Maryland and worked at Litten Bionetics Research Division doing AIDS research on Reece's monkeys in a joint project with the National Institute of Health.
Upon returning to Reading, Nancy became a microbiology Supervisor at Dietrich Milk Products checking for pathogens in milk powder and expanding an experimental division in powdered flavors for the snack industry.
After raising a family, Nancy became certified in Elementary Education from Alvernia University.
Throughout her life, Nancy was an exercise fanatic and fitness buff, working out daily and enjoying tennis, golf and skiing. Nancy also enjoyed traveling with family and friends including trips throughout the United States and to Europe, China and the Caribbean and a very special family trip to Bermuda.
Nancy was very talented and creative including her green thumb and passion for gardening and landscaping as well as cooking, home decorating and making floral arrangements. She enjoyed sewing and even made her own wedding dress and the wedding dresses of both of her sisters. She also re-upholstered all kinds of furniture, including chairs and couches and enjoyed painting and decorating the house for the holidays.
Nancy was a member of the Berkshire Country Club and a former member of the Junior League of Reading and Treasurer of the Reading Garden Club.
Surviving in addition to her husband, Fred, are her two sons, Maxwell C. Nice, and his wife, Megan, of Exeter Township and her son, Phillip A. Nice, of Carnegie, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by her beloved dog, Cooper, who changed her life forever. Also surviving are her two sisters, Jennifer L. Jacobson, Exeter, Pennsylvania and Catherine L. Chang, Columbia, Maryland. At Nancy's request, she has been cremated and all services will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Reading Public Museum, 500 Museum Road, Reading, Pennsylvania 19611, to maintain the gardens and grounds in her memory. Edward J.
