Nan Marie Hamberger, 51, of 1018 Frederick Blvd., Muhlenberg Township, died April 9th in Tamaqua, Schuylkill County.
Schuylkill County Coroner's Offices ruled her death a suicide.
Born in York, Pa., she was a daughter of Donald M. Sr., and Betty D. (Redding) Hamberger of Hagerstown, Maryland.
She was a 1971 graduate of North Hagerstown (M.D.) High School, 1975 graduate of Western Maryland College.
Hamberger later received her master degree in teaching from Hood College, Frederick, Maryland and in 1990 her doctorate from the University of Maryland.
She was a professor for the last 12 years at Alvernia College, Reading, last working April 2nd.
Hamberger was responsible for organizing the Graduate Program in 2001 at Alvernia College and was appointed the first Dean of that program.
She also was the Chair of Rank and Tenure Committee at Alvernia College for the last four years.
Hamberger was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Reading where she was a Sunday School Teacher and an ordained deacon.
She is also survived by a sister, Beth Ann (Hamberger) Clipp of Williamsburg, Maryland and two brothers, Donald M. Hamberger Jr., of Germantown, Maryland and Brian E. Hamberger of Hagerstown, Maryland.
There are also seven nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Tuesday at 3:00 pm in First Presbyterian Church, 37 South 5th Street, Reading, Pa 19602 and Friday at 11:00 am in Christ's Reformed United Church of Christ, 130 West Franklin Street, Hagerstown, MD 21740. No viewings. Burial will be private in Green Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Williamsport, Maryland. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Alvernia College scholarship Fund, 400 St. Bernardine Street, Reading, Pa 19607 or to Aspiring to Serve Inc., c/o of Christ's Reformed U.C.C. at the above address. Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale is in charge of arrangements.
