Myra M. Voigt

Myra McMahon Voigt passed away on November 25, 2012 in her home, surrounded by loved ones, after an 18 month courageous attempt to battle cancer. We all admire her for her strength, grace and optimism during this time in her life when the odds were not in her favor.

Myra was born in 1935 in Fremont Ohio, the daughter of James D. McMahon and Ruby Vermilya McMahon. She attended Bradley University in Peoria, IL where she fell in love and married Norman A. Voigt. Myra and Norm were married for 54 years. Myra lost Norm in Sep. 2010 to cancer as well. Myra and Norm married in IL and lived in various areas of the state over 14 years, moved to New Providence, NJ and lived for 25 years prior to moving to Sinking Spring, PA. She leaves 2 daughters: Nancy Osborne, wife of Glenn, Aurora, CO and Maggie Hessel, wife of Kit, South Riding, VA. She has five grandsons: Michael, Stephen and Gregory Osborne and Cole and Christian Hessel. She is also survived by her furry, white companion, Sophie and many loving friends who became family to her and stood beside her and gave her the strength to keep fighting.

For all of her adult life, Myra will best be known for her unique ability to make and keep cherished friends dating as far back as her days in IL. She was openly friendly and always went above and beyond to include others. She loved to be social which allowed her to create many lasting and dear friendships through her neighbors, Newcomers Clubs, Garden Club, Book Club and Red Hat Societies. As well, she was an avid bridge player and many will remember both Myra and Norm in the bridge room. A family memorial and life celebration will be held at a later date hosted by her daughters. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.

The family wants to recognize the following physicians and their staffs for not only their outstanding medical care, but more importantly, the personal and warm relationship they formed with Myra that made her feel special and gave her the drive to forge on: Patrick Colarusso, Keystone Oncology, Francis Quigley III, Chief, Hospitalist, St. Joseph Medical Center and Leonard Tuanquin, Radiation Oncologist. Also a heartfelt thanks to Heartland Home Care and her hospice team, who are all living proof that angels do exist and are living among us. Memorial donations may be made in the name of the Myra Voigt Scholarship Fund to the Autism Society of America - Northern VA (ASA-NV) 98 N. Washington Street , Falls Church, VA 22046.
