Myers D. Adam

Myers D. Adam, 88, of Shoemakersville, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2020, at Chestnut Knoll, Boyertown, where he was a guest for eight months. He was the husband of Mabel I. (Marderness) Adam, and would have celebrated 69 years of togetherness and marriage on May 19th. He was born in Perry Township, Berks County, the son of the late Alfred D. and Annie S. (Adam) Adam. In addition to his wife, Mabel, Myers is survived by his six children, Mark, husband of Dianne, Macungie, Lucille, wife of Thomas Beltz, Shoemakersville, Dorothy, wife of Terry Boltz, Blandon, Alfred, husband of Mary Lynne, Tallahassee, Florida, Glenn, husband of Shirley, Bernville, Larry, at home, boyfriend of Debbie Wessner. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, Valerie, (Kirk), Adam, (Lisa), Sherry, (Eric), Joshua, (Amanda), Shelly, (Scott), Robbie, (Jennifer), James, (Devin), Christopher, Brad, Rebecca, (Dan), ten great grandchildren and one on the way. He was the last of his family, pre-deceased by his siblings, Alfred, Paul, Herman, Ethel, Ruth, Harold, and infants, Carl and Roy. Myers was born in the house on the farm where he lived his entire life and loved to work and raise his family. He was a graduate of Perry High School Vocational-Agriculture Class of 1949. He played the Baritone horn with the Perry High School Band and the highlight of the year was playing in the Penn State FFA Band two weeks during the summer during his last two years of high school. He was a lifetime member of Zion's Church, Windsor Castle, Hamburg, PA. where he was a deacon and choir member for many years. He had an ear for music and enjoyed the old time hymns and Sousa marches. He sang bass in quartets at Grange and church. His favorite songs were, "It Is Well With My Soul", "The Battle Hymn", and "Stars and Stripes" march. He often played "Our Director" on his Baritone horn, which he had memorized. He was a 50 plus member of the Virginville Grange, a member of the Kutztown Plowboys and the Pennsylvania Farmers Association. He enjoyed traveling across the country on Amtrak and going to tractor shows. He was a true farmer who loved doing a good job raising crops, taking care of farm property, his tractors, trucks and equipment. He enjoyed driving tractor trailers. In his retiring years he spent much time restoring tractors from scratch, with the help of his sons and Barry Roth. He also took pride in his 1940 Chrysler that he restored. His wife, Mabel, will truly miss his constant companionship and working with him, side by side for 65 years of farming. He taught his children the same morals, good management and the love of God that he himself practiced all his life. The family wishes to thank all the caretakers and staff at Chestnut Knoll, Boyertown, for the love and care they always gave to Myers. Thanks also to Caring Hospice of Berks County for their love and care shown to Myers and Mabel through these most difficult months. Funeral services and burial were held privately at Zion's Church, Windsor Castle and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Zion's Church, 770 Zion's Church Road, Hamburg, PA 19526. Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Hamburg, is in charge of arrangements.
