Murray Warner Peake

Murray W. Peake, 87, passed away Monday, January 7, 2019, at The Highlands at Wyomissing.

He was the husband of Glenda C. (Carson) Peake, who died February 8, 2018. They were married April 12, 1975.

Born in Eufaula, Alabama, he was the son of the late George W. and Ella C. (Clapp) Peake.

Murray was a 1949 graduate of Eufaula High School and a 1958 graduate of Georgia Tech.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Murray was employed as a Senior Engineer at AT&T for many years, retiring in 1987. During his tenure at AT&T, Murray worked on the Telstar Communications Satellite at Bell Labs.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Reading, where he served as an elder and deacon, and was head of worship for over ten years.

Murray loved tinkering with things and was known as "Mr. Fix It."

He is survived by four children: James H., husband of Jean Peake, Harrisburg; Rev. Mark S., husband of Kimberly Peake, Monterey, CA; Karen N., wife of Jerry Lanning, Denton, NC; and Ellen N., wife of Leslie Pryor, Denton, NC. A sister Miriam Mitchell, MN, and six grandchildren: Jermy, Jennifer, Jamison, Jordan, Theo and Jonah also survive him.

Murray was predeceased in death by three siblings: George W. Peake, Jr., Carol Richardson, and Julia Tinkey, and one grandson, Carson Cromer.

A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019, at 11 a.m., at The Highlands at Wyomissing, Cultural Center Room, 2000 Cambridge Avenue, Wyomissing, PA 19610. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 37 S. 5th Street, Reading, PA 19602, or Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 8th Avenue, 7th Floor, New York, NY 10001.
