Monroe W. Hoffmaster

Monroe Wilson Hoffmaster, 94, of Laureldale, died September 6, 2007 at 9:13 pm in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center, where he had been a patient since August 28, 2007.

He was married August 24, 1940 to the late Laura L. (Levan) Hoffmaster, who died May 22, 2003.

Born December 21, 1912 in Reading, he was a son of the late Emma K. (Hoffmaster) Sherman and step-son of the late Peter Sherman.

He was employed 25 years as a knitter with Rosedale Knitting Mills and later worked as a fabricator for Reading Steel before retiring in 1977.

Monroe was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Laureldale.

He was a 50 year member of Goodwill (Hyde Park) Fire Company and Beneficial Association.

Monroe is survived by a daughter, Shirley Ann wife of Arthur R. Schaffer of Muhlenberg Township and a son, Richard M. husband of Debra P. (Powell) Hoffmaster of Houston, Texas.

There are also eight grandchildren and eight great granddaughters.

Services will be Thursday at 10:00 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., 3300 Kutztown Road, Laureldale, with the Rev. Grant Wickert officating.
