Mildred R. ( Greenawalt) Kerchner, 97, formerly of Lenhartsville passed away on October 29, 2013 in Keystone Villa, Blandon, PA. She was the widow of Burnette B. Kerchner who died January 28, 1992. Mildred was born in Greenwich Township, January 2, 1916 and was the daughter of the late Edgar P. and Alice C. (Snyder) Greenawalt. She was a graduate of Kutztown High School and a 1936 graduate of Kutztown State Teachers College, now Kutztown University. She taught in a one –room school, Greenwich Township for seven years. She was then appointed by Harry S. Truman in 1944 as the Lenhartsville's Postmaster and held this position for 36 years, retiring in June 1980. Mrs. Kerchner was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Hamburg, Eastern Star Blue Mountain Chapter, #443, National Association of Postmasters of the United States, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She is survived by her daughter, Jewell A. (Kerchner) wife of Dennis P. Miller, Lenhartsville; 1 grandson Blake S. husband of Jennifer Miller, Elizabethtown and a step great granddaughter, Elaine of Elizabethtown. In addition to her husband, Mildred was predeceased by her brother, Norman Greenawalt and her son, LeRoy Dallas Kerchner. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 2:30 PM. from the Burkey & Driscoll Funeral Home, Inc. 40 S. 4th Street, Hamburg, PA. A viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until time of service. The Eastern Star service will be held at 2:15 PM. Burial will follow in Frieden's Cemetery, Lenhartsville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 99 Church Street, Hamburg, 19526-1213.
