Mildred S. Gehman, 98, formerly of Wyomissing and Allentown, died May 9th at 2:15 a.m. in The Moravian Manor, Lititz, where she had been residing since January 17th 2005. Her husband Warren O. Gehman died on February 8, 1990.
Born in Blooming Glen, Bucks County, she was the daughter of the late Allen F. and Lizzie (Smith) Stover.
Gehman graduated from Hilltown High School in 1924.
She was a member of the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, Blooming Glen.
She was a well-known Pennsylvania impressionist painter and served on the faculty of The Baum School of Art, Allentown, for many years.
Gehman served as membership chairman for the Lehigh Valley Art Alliance, and long-time member of the Lehigh Camera Club and Woodmere Art Gallery.
She exhibited her work at Allentown and Reading Art Museums, Muhlenberg College, Lehigh University, Woodmere Galleries, The Woman's Club of Philadelphia, The Lansdale Art League, Bucks County Education Building, and Reading Area Community College.
She received numerous awards for her paintings and her photographs.
Surviving is a daughter, Marilyn R. (Gehman) Diener, wife of Henry M. Diener, Wyomissing.
Other survivors include five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
She was also pre-deceased by a son, W. Roger Gehman in 2002.
Services will be held on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at the Blooming Glen Mennonite Church, Blooming Glen, PA. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Blooming Glen Mennonite Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Baum School of Art, P.O. Box 653 Allentown, PA 18105, or, The Hospice of Lancaster County P.O. Box 4125 Lancaster, PA 17604. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of the arrangements.
