Michaelene Mary Fox

Michaelene Mary "Mike" Fox, 78, who was residing at the Highlands of Wyomissing since 2021, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Born in England, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Margaret (Goudie) Walinchus. Michaelene devoted her life to nurturing and caring for others. She attended College Misericordia and played basketball while studying to become a nurse. She received her Masters in Health Education from Wayne State in 1989 and served as the President of the Pennsylvania Association of Staff Nurses and Allied Professionals (PASNAP). She served in many roles as a nurse over the years. Her favorite was as a certified school nurse in Springfield School District in Delaware County, PA. She loved her colleagues and the students.

Michaelene loved raising her children in Grosse Ile, MI, and summering with family in Skytop, in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Attending her children's events and hosting team dinners were some of her favorite ways to spend her time. Also a proud Mumsie, she loved cheering on her grandchildren at their games and performances. She was a passionate Philadelphia sports fan who enjoyed playing cards, reading in the sun, and having a nice glass of red wine. Her unexpected departure leaves a void not only in the lives of her family but also in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know her.

Michaelene is survived by her loving children: John "Jack" Fox, husband of Rae Anne, of Grosse Ile, MI, Kristin Keating, wife of Chuck, of Elverson, and Susan McFadden, wife of Mark, of Wyomissing; grandchildren: Katie, Mark, Michael, Christopher, Maggie, Molly, Jack III, and Thomas; brother, Dr. Robert Walinchus, husband of Lois; sister, Mary Ryan; Mary Ann Fox, a sister-in-law who became like a sister; Teddy Bear, her beloved dog; many nieces and nephews of whom she was very proud, as well as a host of friends and colleagues who will cherish the memories of her love and laughter.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Jane.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 11:30 am at St. Ignatius Loyola RC Church, 2600 St. Albans Drive Sinking Spring, PA 19608. The family will receive friends and relatives from 10:30 am until the time of Mass.

This Friday, wherever you are, please consider wearing some pink to celebrate Michaelene's life and spirit. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org would be a lovely way to honor her memory.
