Michael James Ziats

Michael James Ziats, 67, of West Reading, passed away December 7, 2016, in the Reading Hospital.

He was the beloved husband of Margaret J. (Dybalski) Ziats who passed away December 1st, 2011. Michael and Margaret were married on September 18, 1971.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late John Ziats and survived by his mother, Evelyn (Galanos) Ziats.

He was a 1967 graduate of Reading High School.

Michael was a U.S. Army veteran who honorably served his country from 1969-1971. He was stationed in Vietnam during the summer and fall of 1969 and received a purple heart in August of 1970.

He worked at Dana, as a steel worker, for 33 years before his retirement.

Michael was a member of NorthStar United Methodist Church in Exeter Township.

Michael loved going on weekly outings to golf with his friends and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He especially loved attending their extracurricular events. He had a love of animals, always making sure his bird feeder was filled and peanuts were fed to the squirrels. However, his pets were closest to his heart.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by two children: Michelle L., wife of James Ward, Jr., Exeter, and Michael J., husband of Trina Ziats, Leesport. He is survived by 4 grandsons: Matthew and Derek Ward; Dylan and Logan Ziats. He is also survived by 6 siblings: John Ziats, Linda Ziats, Rose Purcell, Sue Ziats, Dorothy Roeder, and Stephanie Guti.

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 12, 2016 at 12:00 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA. A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Michael James Ziats Memorial Fund. c/o Edward J.
