Michael Yurkanin

Michael Yurkanin, 78, of Muhlenberg Township died December 18th at 6:17 am in the Reading Hospital and Medical Center where he had been since Friday.

He was the husband of Josephine H. (Shemanski) Yurkanin.

Born in Tresckow, Carbon County, he was a son of the late George Sr. and Justina (Gonda) Yurkanin.

He worked for 33 years as a press operator for Dana Corporation, Reading, before retiring in 1983.

Yurkanin was a member of Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, Hyde Park.

He was a life member of both the VFW Post 378, Reading and the Temple Fire Company.

Yurkanin was an Army Veteran of WWII.

He is also survived by a son, Michael M. Yurkanin of Exeter Township and a daughter Michele A. (Yurkanin) Weber of Exeter Township.

Other survivors include three brothers, George Jr., of Levittown, Andrew of Mountaintop, Luzerne County and Thomas of Levittown.

Yurkanin is also survived by four sisters, Helen (Yurkanin) Mezalick of Conshohocken, Irene (Yurkanin) Lazarsky of Cunningham, AnnaMae Yurkanin of Norristown and Catharine (Yurkanin) Corra of Summerville, New Jersey.

There are also four grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00 am in Holy Guardian Angels Roman Catholic Church, 3121 Kutztown Road, Hyde Park, Reading, Pa 19605. Viewing Tuesday 8:30 - 9:30 am in Walter R. Christ Funeral Home, Inc., Laureldale. Entombment will be in Gethsemane Mausoleum, Muhlenberg Township. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the church at the above address.
