Michael Joseph Vanino

Michael J. Vanino, 73, passed away in his Kenhorst residence on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. For over 30 years he was the devoted companion of Patricia K. Schmehl.

Born in West Reading to the late Joseph and Helen Vanino, Mike graduated from West Reading High School in 1970. Mike began his long career with Spring Air as a truck driver, later transitioning to Symbol as their purchasing agent, and finished his career as the manager of Wolfe Dye and Bleach's loading dock.

He was a man of many passionate interests. He enjoyed birdwatching, mountain bike riding, and model building. Mike also enjoyed watching downhill skiing and followed the Phillies.

He loved auto racing of all kinds, and, as a younger man, he raced dirt bikes. He was heavily involved with the Pagoda and Duryea Hillclimb races in Reading. A talented photographer, Mike volunteered as the photographer for the hill climb events and assisted in the course set up.

He also was known for his sports photography and nature photography and had several articles published in Pennsylvania Magazine.

He enjoyed basketball, having played the sport through his school years, and he enjoyed coaching his son's little league basketball team.

Left to treasure Mike's memory is his companion and love, Patricia; his children; Michael D. Vanino of Reading; Jamie Vanino of Sinking Spring; Steve Werley and wife Angela of Hamburg; and Heather Werley of Lebanon; and grandchildren, Marcello and Laylani Vanino and Kylie and Brennan Werley. He is also survived by his nephews and extended family.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Josie Adams and her late husband, Pete.

Services for Mike will be held privately at his family's convenience. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
