Michael J. Soltis

Michael J. Soltis, 71, of Sinking Spring, passed away on August 18, 2016, at 9:30 p.m. in the Reading Hospital after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was the husband of Joanne M. (Stacherski) Soltis. They were married June 20, 1970, and recently celebrated 46 years of marriage. Born in Chester, PA, in 1945, Mike was the son of the late Edmund S. and Anna D. (Wawrzonek) Soltis.

Mike found pleasure and relaxation by fishing and playing golf with friends both in Florida and Pennsylvania. He had a great time with casino gaming at all venues that he would visit. He especially enjoyed playing quoits with his buddies. He was extremely proud of both of his children's accomplishments throughout their athletic careers at both the local level (Holy Name High School and Wilson High School) and at their collegiate level (Lycoming College and Pepperdine University) and enjoyed watching them compete. Mike was a sports enthusiast and an avid and loyal fan of the Philadelphia Phillies.

He was a 1962 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School and a graduate of Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton, Florida, earning his Bachelor of Business Administration in Human Resources Management.

Mike was a United States Air Force veteran, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War.

He was manager and president of Green Acres Golf Course, Inc., for over 30 years, retiring in 2008.

Mike was a member of St. Ignatius of Loyola Church, Sinking Spring, PA.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, Joanne, are his two children; Lieutenant Colonel Michele A. Soltis, M.D., wife of Colonel Andrew R. Wiesen, M.D., of Steilacoom, Washington; and Michael R. Soltis, companion of Lori L. Klinikowski, of Newark, Delaware. Mike was an endearing Papa to grandsons Michael Wiesen and Trey Soltis. Also surviving is a brother, Edmund S. Soltis, Jr., husband of Elaine, Cumru Township. Many cousins also survive him.

The Soltis family would like to express their sincere gratitude to everyone who has shown them love, offered prayers, and gave them support and encouragement throughout Mike's difficult journey. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses, aides, and staff at the Reading Hospital and the McGlinn Cancer Institute for the professional care and compassion given to Michael.

At Mike's request, cremation will be at the convenience of the family. Services are private. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is entrusted with arrangements.

If desired, contributions may be made in Mike's memory to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, P.O. Box 69, Mohnton, PA 19540. Online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
