Dr. Michael Sachenik, 61, of Wyomissing, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, in the care of St. Francis Home, Shillington. He was the devoted husband of Pam Sachenik and loving father of Matthew, Daniel, and John Sachenik. He was preceded by his father, Leon, and is survived by his mother, Mary Ann, and sister, Camille.
Dr. Sachenik received a BS in biochemistry from Cornell University and MD from the University of Rochester. After completing a radiology residency at Reading Hospital and a body imaging fellowship at the University of Rochester, he returned to Pennsylvania and began his practice in diagnostic radiology, culminating at Reading Hospital where he served the community and medical staff for the past 20 years. Mike had a special passion for diagnostic ultrasound and was the Section Head of the Ultrasound Department, where he enjoyed the opportunities the position provided to both offer direct patient care and to pass on his knowledge to the students, sonographers, and residents rotating through the department. His society memberships include, among others, the RSNA, ACR, AIUM, SRU, PMS, and the BSMS.
Mike enjoyed time with his family, especially the summer treks they shared to the national parks and the yearly vacations to Ocean City, NJ. He was very fond of the family cats, Jazzy, Pepper, Newton, and Friday. He was a lifelong suffering Buffalo Bills fan.
He loved music, played the piano, and was a novice guitar player, but he kept busy with many other hobbies as well, including photography, cars, woodworking, computing, gardening, and cooking. He was rarely idle, and his home is strewn with many additional interests which were explored but ultimately discarded for lack of time.
